Apple has ordered the production of OLED displays for the iPhone 12 from the Chinese BOE

BOE Technology ranks second in terms of production of OLED panels in the world

Chinese display manufacturer BOE Technology has entered the list of component suppliers for the new generation of iPhone. According to industry sources DigiTimes, in the second half of October, BOE will begin shipping OLED panels with a diagonal of 6.1 inches for the new iPhone 12 models, reports DailyComm.

So far we are talking about a small batch, but sources say that in 2021 the volume of orders may increase. If that happens, working with Apple will help strengthen BOE’s position in the smartphone OLED panel market.

According to research company Strategy Analytics, Samsung Display remains the largest supplier of displays for smartphones. In the period from January to June 2020, the South Korean manufacturer provided 50% of total sales in the industry. BOE Technology took second place in this indicator, and third was another Chinese manufacturer Tianma Microelectronics.

UBI Research previously estimated that in the first half of 2020, 190 million OLED panels for smartphones were released worldwide.

The share of these products in the total volume of displays on organic LEDs was 82.2%.

In monetary terms, sales of smartphone OLED screens brought in $ 11.26 billion or 83.3% of total turnover in the OLED industry.

It is expected that in the second half of 2020, global shipments of OLED panels will grow by 66% compared to the first half and reach 383 million units. Sales of these products in cash will increase by 107% to $ 28 billion.
