Facebook has received lawsuits from the US authorities, which may force the company to sell Instagram and WhatsApp

The US Federal Trade Commission and virtually every US state have filed a lawsuit against Facebook. US authorities accuse Facebook of violating antitrust laws. The commission said it would demand the alienation of Instagram and WhatsApp, as the United States considers the corporation’s acquisition of these assets illegal.

According to the American authorities, Facebook “illegally maintains its monopoly in the field of social networks due to many years of anti-competitive behavior.” Facebook bought Instagram in 2012 for $ 1 billion. Two years later, the corporation bought WhatsApp for $ 19 billion. In October, the US Federal Trade Commission filed a lawsuit against Google, accusing the company of abusing its monopoly position in the search and online advertising market.
