Types and functionality of sneakers

Sneakers have long since ceased to be shoes for sports and turned into a fashion accessory. Manufacturers offer their customers several kinds of sneakers – from classic running shoes to ultra fashionable walking shoes.

Sneakers for jogging.

Trekking sports shoes are in the range of all manufacturers. To choose sneakers for running on asphalt or in the park, pay attention to two factors:

Weight – the shoes should not be heavy, as the feet will quickly get tired when running;

materials – at the heart of the model is a strong fabric mesh.

Such sneakers are easy to determine by their shape: they are completely similar to the shape of the foot, tight-fitting the foot and slightly widened at the end so that the toes do not shrink while running. They have a height below the ankle and produce low socks specifically for these models.

Fitness sneakers…

Their other name is cross-trainers or trailers. They have a stable sole and reinforced inner side, which can withstand frequent foot tilts during training. Most models are made of perforated fabric and are universal, suitable for walking, cycling, short jogging and tennis or basketball.

Bodybuilder sneakers

To lift the simulators you need sports shoes that can withstand heavy weight. Trainers for bodybuilders are made of genuine leather, the rigid sole is stable, has no shock absorbers, does not slide and has a high back part. This shape helps to involve buttock and back muscles in traction exercises.

Sneakers for boxing

The model looks like running sneakers with a high cuff. The shoe fits your foot tightly due to the tight lacing, made of leather, insole has a suppinator and a thin non-slip sole.

Sneakers for motorsport

The heel in these models of sports shoes is beveled and the sole is raised to the tendon, due to which the back fits the leg tightly. The sole is very thin, which increases the sensitivity when controlling the pedals. Sneakers are made of thin suede, very soft, not rubbing, for walking on the street is not suitable.

Skater sneakers

The leader in the production of skateboarding shoes is Nike. The company produces sneakers with thick cast sole made of vulcanized rubber with a special grooved pattern, which makes the grip on the skateboard maximum. The top is made of natural suede or leather.

Football sneakers

Boots is the name of this model. The shoes are made of leather and have a special sole with spikes, a sealed sock and a tight lacing. To choose such shoes for a child or adult football player, you should pay attention to the price and buy models from well-known manufacturers – Lonsdale, Joma or Puma.

Basketball and volleyball sneakers

During the game, the athlete’s foot is very mobile, so for basketball and volleyball choose high sneakers with a massive sole to avoid dislocation of the ankle. The standard for such shoes is weight no more than 600 grams, strong lacing and excellent shock absorption. Nike, Adidas and SHAQ are popular shoe manufacturers for these sports.

Everyday sneakers

Sports shoes have become an element of stylish image. World manufacturers of sneakers have always produced models in casual format – that is, casual, designed for walking.

The real boom happened in 2018, when the company Balenciaga has released a model of Triple-s sneakers on a massive sole. Almost all manufacturers picked up fashion on models with solid soles, beveled heel and fancy shape. Inexpensive and interesting models are produced by Fila, Reebok and Adidas.

How to choose quality sneakers

Shoes must be of high quality – this rule is not discussed when choosing. To buy should not go to the market or to shops where they trade without a license Vietnamese copies. Externally, the models have an identical shape, but at the expense of cheaper materials, they are produced without supinators, protective plates and without “breathing” layer – all that makes sports shoes comfortable.

When choosing sneakers, pay attention to details so as not to buy fake shoes:

weight – sneakers that are too heavy are made of poor quality rubber and cheap leatherette;

price – compare the price on the official website and in the store, the difference can be no more than 30%, except for goods from the section SALE (sales);

seams must be smooth, stitches of the same shape;

the cut of materials on the original is always white;

the presence of a reflective lens – an additional lanyard lock;

the logo inscription is embroidered or embossed neatly, not glued;

the perforation is fine, evenly distributed throughout the shoe surface;

the insole is taken out, the logo and size are embroidered on it;

information sticker on the tongue is mandatory – it contains information about the model, size, series;

the company box with the logo also has an information sticker with the information and QR-code, which opens the description of the shoes on the official website;

Before buying, go to the official website of the manufacturer and find the model you are interested in. Download the picture to your phone to compare it with the product in the shop window.

You can choose and buy sneakers of well-known companies on the official sites of the manufacturer or in branded stores. They are located mainly in the capital and in large regional centers. When buying, pay attention to the presence of a branded box and bag and ask for a certificate.

How to choose the right sneakers

In order to choose the right sneakers, it is necessary to take into account the peculiarities of tailoring male and female models. Size grids correspond to size 39 to 43, with the shoes being different in terms of parameters:

the female foot is narrower, than the male foot, therefore at the same size sneakers for ladies will be narrowed;

women’s weight is on average 20% lower than men’s, manufacturers take this nuance into account and produce shoes with increased depreciation;

men’s sneakers have tight inserts at the heel.

The choice of sneakers for the child should take into account the anatomy of the child’s foot:

children under 3 years of age have a high lift, it is better to choose models with a foot fit on Velcro-fixers;

make sure you buy extra orthopedic insole;

measure the sneakers on the toe, there should be a toe between the heel and the back – this is an optimal size reserve;

do not buy shoes for growth – incorrect size will cause tendon injuries;

when a child learns to tie his shoelaces, switch to laced models.

How to choose sneaker size

Each brand sews sneakers according to its own patterns, so you need to focus not on the number, but on real measurements. Before you go to the store, make a blank for the selection:

put your foot on a sheet of cardboard, take turns circling each foot;

measure the distance from the end of your thumb to the heel in a straight line.

The resulting number is your size. Note that more often than not, the left foot is 2-3 millimeters longer, so be sure to try on a longer foot. Over time, the sneakers will stretch by 2-3 millimeters. When trying them on, shoe them on a sock and take a few steps and simulate running in place – there should be no discomfort.

Fullness

When ordering shoes from foreign sites, pay attention to completeness. In connection with the world problem of obesity, most companies sew sneakers, taking into account the width of the foot.

English designations:

F is a normal foot;

G is a wide foot;

H is a full foot with a protruding bone;

H ½ is a very full foot.

If the fullness is not indicated, the shoe is retracted in the standard pattern.

Markings of completeness in the United States for women’s s sneakers:

4 A super slim is very narrow;

3 A slim S is narrow;

2 A narrow N – closer to normal;

B medium M – normal width;

C wide W – slightly wider than the average fullness;

D double wide WW – wide;

E triple wide WWW – very wide.

Men’s net of fullness shoes in the United States:

2A and 3A – very narrow;

A – narrow;

B, C or Narrow – a bit already normal;

D or Medium – normal;

E or Wide – wide;

2E, 3E and above are very wide.

How do you determine which sneakers are better?

A variety of sneakers will amaze even the most demanding customer, but not for every sport suitable for a particular model. If you wear sports shoes every day, always buy a separate pair for walks and for sports.

When choosing shoes, pay attention to the degree of support for your sneakers. The selected pair is checked in the following way:

twisting or torsional rigidity – the better a sneaker twists, the stronger the unevenness of the surface will be felt while running and walking;

bending or transverse stiffness – the worse a sneaker bends, the higher the model’s cushioning and ankle protection during running and walking.

Always buy shoes on the official website of the manufacturer or in a company store. Availability of a certificate is the main condition of the purchase. Inexpensive Turkish and Chinese copies are made of poor quality materials and do not have shock absorbers, so the shoes will not be safe when running or doing sports.

Buying a pair of shoes from a well-known manufacturer, you pay for quality and reliability:

Adidas;

Nike;

Asics;

Puma;

Reebok;

Saucony;

New Balance.

Seven of the world’s best manufacturers offer quality sports shoes for athletes and fans of active lifestyle.

The best running and gym shoes are Asics. The company creates anatomically correct shoes with comfortable lacing.

Adidas – models with a classic design, in production uses a fabric Nano-tex, designed for durable shoes.

New Balance and Reebok make sneakers from suede and fabric on a light sole, recognizable models are annually included in the top of the best for everyday wear.

Saucony is a budget brand that offers stylish, inexpensive models for fitness and running.

For many years Nike has been producing sneakers with Air system – shock absorbers inside the sole, which makes running and everyday sports shoes as comfortable as possible.

Puma – a leader in the production of sneakers, series IGNITE and Suede for many years, are among the top popular among professional athletes, as they have a foot protection system against sprains.

High and low sneakers

Which sneakers are best for fitness and running, and which ones for sports, depends on the height of the model.

For professional sports, it is important that the foot is securely fixed. The tall models have extra lacing and cover the ankle tightly. If you want to choose sneakers for volleyball or basketball, choose the tall models with polyurethane soles.

The Nike, Puma or Balenciaga catalogues have high leather sneakers for everyday sports shoes. The catalogues also show the winter fur versions with thick soles. These shoes are designed for walking and do not meet safety standards when running or exercising.

Low shoes are worth choosing if you are going for light sports:

crossfit;

group activities in the gym;

fitness.

Everyday sports shoes are made of durable materials that can be washed in a typewriter. They dry quickly and do not lose their shape after spinning.

Materials of manufacture

Only boots for footballers and sneakers for wrestlers are made entirely of leather. For fitness, everyday and running shoes are made of a combination of different materials.

Top of sneakers

This part of sports shoes is designed to protect the foot, it should fit the foot tightly and be resistant to wear. To meet all these requirements, three materials are used in production:

natural leather – on the heel, socks and lacing attachment points, where the shoes are subjected to heavy loads;

synthetic or PU leather – the material is not stretched and has a strong structure, it is often used to sew the base of sneakers, adding the top of leather inserts and fabric;

mesh materials – lightweight and durable multilayer fabrics made of nylon and polyester make shoes “breathable”.

Intermediate sole

This part of the shoes is the most important in the structure of sneakers, it provides stability of the foot while moving and cushioning loads. Such materials are used in production:

phylite – a mixture of filon and rubber, the layer reduces the weight of shoes and makes the sole flexible;

EVA – an inexpensive lightweight foam material, which over time loses air, is used in inexpensive brands;

phylon – a foamy granular structure with excellent cushioning makes the shoes light and durable;

polyurethane is a dense material with high strength.

The main sole

The lower part of the sneakers is responsible for adhesion to different surfaces and has high depreciation. Thanks to the tread pattern, the shoes are adapted to high loads and to the features of different sports.

They are used for production:

duralon – artificial rubber obtained by blowing, the material is used in the nose of the shoes to ensure excellent shock absorption during running;

BRS 1000 – strong rubber with carbon inclusions is used for production of soles in running shoes;

DRC – rubber with additives, a durable material for the production of everyday sports shoes and tennis models;

pure rubber – a combination of a natural and synthetic material with high adhesion, the main advantage is an affordable price.

The more layers in the sole of sneakers, the higher the wear resistance of shoes.

Pay attention to the heel

When choosing the right sport shoes, pay particular attention to the heel. It should be made taking into account the anatomy of the foot:

the back has a rigid back of thermoplastic material, which provides a tight fixation of the heel to reduce injuries in case of improperly placed foot;

a special slot in the middle of the heel protects the Achilles tendon and reduces injury while running;

the inside of the heel has a soft padding and fits the foot tightly.

Another important feature that will help you choose quality sneakers is the drop – the height difference between the soles of the heel and the toe. In running models, the back part is noticeably higher, which provides a gentle roll of the foot while driving, ideally 7-9 millimeters. The drop of 4-7 millimetres is typical for everyday sneakers and fitness models.

Correct fitting

It is difficult to choose the right size of sneakers without fitting. It is necessary to put on shoes, make a few steps. At the fitting, take socks to buy a pair of matching size.

Most manufacturers have their own size mesh. An important nuance – for sports shoes there are sizes with halves – for example, 40.5. If you wear the full size, choose sneakers slightly larger – when you are doing sports foot swells, to avoid discomfort it is better to buy when trying on a pair of ½ size larger.

Put on your shoes and take a few steps to fix the heel. If your foot moves down and rests against the sock, this model is not suitable for sports or everyday wear.

Take into account the anatomical features of your foot and the height of your feet. A wide foot with a high arch needs a tight fit for the shoe. If you need to choose everyday sneakers, pay attention to the fitness models, they are perfectly fixed to the foot by lacing.

Children’s shoes with Velcro are suitable for everyday wear and are not intended for sports activities. When choosing shoes in autumn for spring, take into account that the foot can grow by 2-3 sizes.

What is pronation?

Pronation is the extent to which a foot falls in while running. It’s a measure that helps you choose the right running shoes.

To determine the degree of pronation, do a test:

soak your feet;

stand on a piece of paper;

stand for 20-30 seconds.

Neutral pronation. The outside of the heel rotates inwards by 15%, maintains weight and optimally distributes load. When running or walking, the surface is pushed back evenly from the front of the foot.

Hypoproporation. When walking or running, the foot comes into contact with the surface on the outside of the heel and the impact is not distributed effectively, the person is pushed off the surface by the small toes. You need special shoes with high cushioning to soften the load on your feet.

Hyperproporation. The point of contact with the surface is shifted on the inside of the heel, the leg deflects and is easily injured while running. Athletes with this problem need special sneakers, they push off the ground with their toes and can get dislocated when running carelessly.

The problem of pronation is solved by choosing specially designed sneakers:

Support sneakers – at normal feet.

Control – when the pronation is high.

Neutral – at hypopronation.

To choose sneakers for running or walking under your pronation, carefully read the information on the box. All major well-known manufacturers of running shoes indicate the designation in the model annotation.

How to Distinguish Natural Leather from Artificial Leather?

High-quality shoes made of good leather serve several seasons, while the leatherette cracks when worn continuously after a few months. To choose sneakers for everyday wear, pay attention to the product:

Look carefully at the sneaker cut: if you can see the threads on it or if it is blue, pink, grey or greenish, it is a fake. High-quality sneakers are made only of genuine leather and suede.

The box contains a sample of the material in the form of a rhombus. A piece of even shape means artificial leather, and the wrong one means natural leather.

The peculiar aroma of genuine leather is difficult to confuse with another. If after opening the box you hear only the scents of glue and paint, and the seller assures you that the sneakers are leather, it is better not to make a purchase.

Click your fingernail on the leather in an inconspicuous place and wait 30 seconds. The natural material will quickly get back in shape, the replacement will leave a dent.

Sneaker care

Modern washing machines have a special program marked with a cedar pattern – a delicate mode for washing shoes. If this is not the case, set optimal washing conditions:

temperature 30°C;

spin 400 rpm;

time 30 minutes.

Shoes can be washed in a machine made of fabric and other artificial materials, necessarily with the addition of stain remover.

Leather sneakers should be washed manually under warm running water, after washing they are wiped dry and lubricated with shoe cream or treated with a suede spray.

The white sole often gets darker and can be whitened with toothpaste. To do this, apply some toothpaste to an old toothbrush, foam it, spread it over the entire surface of the sole and leave for 30 minutes. Then rinse off with warm water and wipe dry.

Specify the return rules

Exchange and return of goods is regulated by the Law of Ukraine on Protection of Consumer Rights. Within 14 days from the date of purchase you can return the goods of proper quality, the countdown starts the next day after purchase.

But what should you do if you bought summer shoes in autumn and found a defect with the arrival of warm days? According to the law, the guarantee for shoes starts to apply depending on the seasonality of the shoes:

the winter season is from 15.11 to 15.03;

spring season, 15.03 to 15.05;

summer season – from 15.05 to 15.09;

autumn season – from 15.09 to 15.11.

If you bought summer sneakers or sneakers in winter and winter sneakers in summer, you will not start wearing them until the appropriate season. The seller is obliged to accept for exchange or return the goods of proper quality and return the full amount of money according to the receipt. If the receipt is lost, the shop is obliged to restore it free of charge from the cash register tape, which is stored for 3 months.

It’s an interesting nuance with the price:

If the price of a product has changed, for example, you bought sneakers at a discount, you must return the full price at the time of circulation;

if an item is cheaper, the store must return the amount according to your receipt, excluding the new discount.

Sellers often refuse to take back shoes on the grounds that they do not have a box. By law, you are obliged to store them for a set period of time to return/exchange the goods of proper quality, that is, 14 days from the date of purchase.
