How to cook juicy and healthy shawarma at home

Many people associate shawarma with a street platform, but you can also cook it at home. And it will be not only tasty, but also useful and economical. Victor Sinyukov, chef of Lavash Power Corner, shared the secrets of cooking the most delicious shawarma with The Challenger.

 

What is shawarma made of

To make the shawarma really juicy and healthy, you will need four components: thin yeast-free lavash, fresh vegetables, good meat and delicious sauce. Many people are used to eating shawarma with chicken, but you can also prepare this dish with beef – in this snack there will be higher iron content.

To cook three servings of shawarma at home, you will need it:

    lavash – 3 large sheets;

    beef – 400 g;

    Beijing cabbage – 200 g;

    cucumbers – 4 pieces;

    tomatoes – 2 pieces;

    sauce – to taste.

 

Meat for delicious shawarma

– An important rule in the preparation of home shawarma is the preparation of meat. You should marinade it in advance, 5 hours before cooking, or even better, from the night. A classic recipe for marinade: salt, pepper, some garlic and thyme. These spices make the beef fragrant, without losing its juiciness and unique shades of taste. The meat should be cut into thin steaks and beaten, then fry for 7-10 minutes on medium heat on both sides and cut into straw.

 

Lavash for shawarma

It is best to use thin rectangular Armenian lavash for home shawarma. It is sold in any supermarket. The composition of such lavash is as simple as possible: water, wheat flour, yeast and a pinch of salt. Good lavash does not tear or crumble, which allows you to roll it without any problems with a filling. The main rule is that lavash should be fresh, not dry, otherwise it will lose its elasticity.

Vegetables for shawarma

The basic set of vegetables for shawarma is Beijing cabbage, cucumbers and tomatoes. You can also add onions and carrots. When choosing vegetables, follow this rule: the products should not be sluggish or look plastic. The juicier and more flavorful the vegetables, the more delicious the shawarma will be.

 

Try to cut all vegetables into pieces of the same size, so that the taste of the dish will open evenly.

 

Shawarma sauce

Shawarma can be cooked with different sauces, such as “Caesar” or garlic. But for home cooking, the chefs recommend homemade tomato sauce.

To prepare the sauce you will need a tomato paste, in which you need to add water and bring it to a boil. In the meantime, mix onions, carrots, garlic and herbs in a blender to taste. Add a small pinch of coriander and pepper. Mix all the ingredients in one bowl.

 

Collecting shawarma

Shawarma is convenient to take with you on the road, to the office is a delicious and nourishing snack. Wrap the ready shawarma in parchment to eat without a fork and a knife, or remove it into a lunchbox and then eat with the help of appliances.

 

When the stuffing and sauce for shawarma will be ready, take the leaf pita bread, lay layers of meat and vegetables on it, pour the sauce and wrap. Then, fry the volumetric roll a little in a dry pan. Very tasty shawarma ready!
