Samsung is developing its own 3D ToF sensor

Today we received information that Samsung is developing its own 3D ToF sensor. Relevant information was shared by the LetsGoDigital portal, which published patents filed by Samsung with EUIPO (European Union Intellectual Property Office).

The description of the patent refers to the ISOCELL Vizion camera, which perfectly matches the description of the 3D ToF sensor.
In the description to the patent there are probable characteristics of this sensor. There is also talk that this sensor will receive face recognition. This will be relevant and necessary if Samsung installs this sensor near the front camera.

It is unknown at this time whether Samsung’s ISOCELL Vizion sensor will be included in the Galaxy S21 line, but this is a clear sign that the company is considering expanding its product range.

There is also a possibility that the Galaxy Note20 smartphone did not receive a 3D ToF sensor due to the fact that Sony has already been busy with Apple orders for this sensor. Probably for this reason, Samsung decided to develop its own sensor and not depend on other companies.
