According to Strategy Analytics, the global tablet market is recovering against the backdrop of countermeasures against the COVID-19 pandemic. Forced to stay at home, consumers are buying tablets for distance working, training and entertainment at the fastest pace in six years.
Given the market recovery, experts predict the first tablet sales growth since 2014 for 2020. According to estimates of Strategy Analytics, sales volume in physical terms will increase by 1% and reach almost 161 million pieces.
Among the remarkable trends, experts note an increased interest in tablets with larger displays. It is expected that in 2020 models with a diagonal of more than 10 inches for the first time will take more than half (56%) of the total supply of tablet devices. For comparison, in 2019, this segment included 45% of the total number of produced tablets, and 55% of devices received screens with a diagonal of less than 10 inches.
In Strategy Analytics believe that the popularity of tablets with large screens is a long-term trend that will increase every year. It is expected that in 2025 models with 10 inch and larger screens will already occupy 64% of the market in kind.
Participating use of tablets for working purposes and for training promotes growth of sales of hybrid models “two-in-one” with removable keyboards. To such belong tablets Samsung Galaxy Tab S7, Microsoft Surface Pro 7 and practically all ruler of iPad, except for iPad mini.
Experts note that compared with 2017, when hybrids occupied only 17% of the total supply of tablets, their market share has already more than doubled. According to the results of 2020 the indicator is expected to be at 40%, and in 2025 the segment “two-in-one” will include 45% of all tablets.
Besides, in connection with development of flexible displays in 2021 it is expected occurrence of one more hybrid category – tablets with folding screens. It is expected that next year such models will take about 1% in the supply of tablets, and then this figure will increase annually by percentage. In 2025, Strategy Analytics predicts that 5% of tablets entering the market will be folding hybrids.
IDC analysts previously predicted that the market for personal computers and tablets will grow by 3.3 percent by 2020. They estimate that manufacturers will produce a total of 425.7 million traditional PCs (laptops and desktops), tablets and workstations.
