The popular social network and application TikTok has announced its intention to build a large data center in Ireland: the cost of the project is estimated at $ 500 million.
This was reported by Ukrinform with reference to the BBC.
This Irish center will store videos, messages and other data created by European TikTok users.
It should be noted that until now, this social network stored the data of its users in the United States, and their backups – in Singapore.
The decision to open a storage center in Ireland came just after US President Donald Trump threatened to ban TikTok in the country. Due to the fact that the Chinese origin of the property of this application and social networks pose a danger to the United States and its national interests.
In turn, the Chinese company Bytedance, whose subsidiary is TikTok, rejects such accusations.
As you know, TikTok is a platform for distributing short videos. Over the past few years, this application has become very popular among young people around the world.
