The authorities of the American state of Washington fined the Twitter company for $100 thousand for violating the law on financing federal election campaigns, said the state attorney general Bob Ferguson. This was reported by RIA “Novosti”.
The decision was made by the Supreme Court of King County. According to the Prosecutor General, Twitter has not kept data on local political advertisements published from 2012 to 22 November 2019. This violates state law.
“Open access to information on political advertisements is essential for a free and informed electorate,” Ferguson said.
It is noted that from 2012 to 2019, the company earned nearly $200,000 from political advertising of local candidates.
